O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. 2
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. Psalms 95:1-2
When we worship our God and our Creator, there should be joy in our expression of worship. Worship is a time to celebrate God. We celebrate who He is, His goodness and righteousness, and His mercy toward us. These are just a couple of His character traits we can worship. The point is we have a great and loving God. He is a God that loves us so much, He is preparing an eternity for those who believe in Him and follow Him in faith. In this Psalm, the Psalmist tells us that we should sing for joy in the Lord and that we should shout joyfully to Him. Why? Because He alone is the rock of our salvation. Salvation comes in no other way except through Him. And this fact should cause us to shout and sing our worship to Him. We are to come before Him with thanksgiving and again shout joyfully. There is much joy to be found in faith in God.
Application
It is true that we should come to God and worship Him with joy, singing, shouting, and yes, even thanksgiving. We may ask how we can do this when we face such challenging times. There is so much violence and sickness and inequality in this world, how can we possibly be filled with joy and thanksgiving. Joyfulness and thankfulness are a matter of perspective.
When we focus on the problems we have on this earth, then we will find our joyfulness and thankfulness waning. This world will drag us down if we allow that to happen. But, when we focus on God we have a reason to be joyful, thankful, and even to worship God. He is the rock or our salvation. Our God provides us with the hope of an eternity spent with Him. And for this reason we can and should worship Him.
What is preventing you from experiencing the joy that God wants to bring to your life?
